Ireland Tour 1

: Day 2

Day 2

The Ireland tour begins in Belfast and takes us first of all to the coast of Antrim. The contrasting scenic route that now lies ahead of us makes a biker’s heart beat faster: the coexistence of the Antrim Mountains with its graceful glens and the rugged coastal landscape with its steep cliffs, remote bays, the Atlantic Ocean and a magnificent view up to the horizon.

We take our first break at Carrick-a-Rede. After a short walk along the steep coast we reach the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge. A suspension bridge which connects the mainland with a small detached island. We enjoy the splendid view from this island.

We travel further on along the scenic coastal road and stop off at a small harbour. While having a snack you can delight in the picturesque scenery and gain a foretaste of what is shortly to come: the Giant’s Causeway with thousands of five or six-cornered basalt stones in rows surrounded by an impressive range of mountains. According to legend, the giant Finn Mac Cumhaill fell in love with a female giant who lived on the Scottish Hebridean island of Staffa and whom he wanted to bring over. So as not to get his feet wet while crossing the Atlantic, he built this crossover, the remains of which can still be marvelled at today.

We have another break at Dunluce Castle which was built in the 14th century. The ancient walls dip us back into the mystic world of the Middle Ages.

The driving distance is approximately 130 miles.
